The Person Behind the Work.

Drawing on 30 years of interior practice, Sonali understands how light, material and proportion can change the way we experience a space.

Her journey into Niwa Terra grew from a lifelong fascination with beauty, nature and the way art can become part of everyday life.

Working across interiors, art and materials, she began exploring how these ideas could take form in objects that bring light, character and a sense of discovery into a room.

30+

Niwa means garden. Terra means earth.

A garden teaches you to notice what changes slowly: light, shadow, texture and time.

Earth is where the material begins. The garden is where we learn to look.

Niwa Terra sits between the two, where what we notice becomes what we make.

Light & Space

Understanding how material changes a room

A Niwa Terra piece begins with raw material, passes through heat and hand, and becomes light.

Then it enters your space, where its story continues through the way you live with it, the light around it and the time it gathers.

The studio is only the beginning.

When It Finds Its Place

A slight unevenness, a mark left by a hand, a variation in the surface, none of these are corrected out. They are the evidence that someone was present when the object was made. That presence is part of what you are bringing home.

Artisans who have spent years understanding one material. What glass will and will not allow. How clay responds to temperature. Where glad can be pushed and where it must be left alone. Each piece carries their knowledge from decades.
